Pata de vaca is a small tree that grows up to 5-9m in height. Its leaves are shaped like a cow's hoof, which also derives its name Brazilian pata de vaca. It grows in rainforest and tropical areas of Peru, Brazil, Asia, eastern Paraguay and northeastern Argentina. It is quite common in Rio de Janeiro and the south of Brazil.

Although scientists have studied some of the components of pata de vaca and we have identified, was not conduct a thorough search to determine which elements of the phyto-chemical properties is biologically active. The leaves contain a popular element of the phyto-chemical called astragalin antibacterial properties, as well as flavonoids, alkaloids and glycosides. Traditional preparation:
